My major is Accounting with a concentration in Finance. I plan on applying for an internship this upcoming summer at a financial firm either in the cities or in New York. After graduation, I want to be a financial analyst and eventually get my MBA in finance and work my way up the board of directors in a company.

I chose St. John’s because I consider it to be my second home, because of the hospitality everyone has for their guests, students, and alumns. SJU also provides a wide array of majors and minors that can fit just about anyone, while also providing the option for independent study if one wants to pursue something out of the ordinary.

It is hard to pinpoint a funniest moment because we are constantly laughing day in and day out, but I will say the locker room is usually the place where we share the most laughs.

I chose Saint John’s because it is a very tight knit community with a beautiful campus. The small class sizes optimize the educational experience.

My funniest memories are Nate Stone’s goal celebrations.

I chose St. John’s for their academic and athletic excellence. I am also close to home which is important to me because I am very close to my family.

It’s hard to pick a funniest moment because every practice or road trip for games there is something new and funny that happens. Every day is a great experience with Johnnie Soccer.

My proudest moment in my soccer career was making it through senior year preseason without a concussion.

I am an Accounting major on a CPA track. I have accepted a job at a public accounting firm (Deloitte) in Minneapolis post-graduation.

The reason I chose Saint John’s was because my father and grandfather both attended school here. I love everything about the campus and the people who make up the campus. And of course, soccer.

My funniest memory on the team was watching Joel Baeza (late in his senior campaign) on a full field breakaway looking for his first goal as a Johnnie, just to miss the net.

I am a Biology and Environmental studies double major with a minor in pre-forestry. I personally hope use my education to peruse my passion of wildlife conservation and land/resource management.

After graduation, I hope to try wildland firefighting and perhaps apply for graduate school. I really hope to obtain a job that focuses on conservation of the natural world where I will be spending plenty of time outside!

Saint John’s offers a campus unlike any other for someone who loves the outdoors like me. The arboretum provides a huge natural area making it a great place to receive an education in biology and environmental studies. The great education paired with the phenomenal community and people on campus made Saint John’s my number one choice from the beginning.

There are far too many funny moments I’ve had on this team, but one one of favorites was fake “knife” fighting (with no knifes) in Spain and France on our team trip in front of many scared and confused locals.

After graduation I plan to find a job that I thoroughly enjoy and challenges me to continue to learn and grow as a person. I also plan on being a ‘suburban’ dad and coaching my kids sports teams.

I chose St. John’s because of the way everyone here made me feel welcome. I felt like I was discovering a second home when I toured and stayed overnight rather than just picking a college.

My funniest moment while being on the team was when I ‘pulled the chair out’ and watched on Macalester’s 6’6” forward fall when he tried to post up and win a header while I was guarding him on a throw in.

After graduation, I’d like to get involved with a professional team as soon as possible and start working my way up to being alongside the best of the best.

I chose Saint John’s because of the community that is here. The sense of community I felt right away was amazing. I immediately knew it would be my home away from home.

The funniest memories while being on the team are from jamming out to music in the locker room with the boys.

I am a Biology and Psychology double major with a Premed minor. I plan to use this education to work my way to and through medical school.

After graduation, I plan to work my way through medical school and complete all the preparation associated with that. From there, I have plans of working in a Children’s Hospital.

I chose St. John’s because I believe that this school offers me the best chance to be successful later on in my life. Having the opportunity to double major, compete in soccer, and live in this community all while not being too far from home is a great opportunity St. John’s offered me.

In my short time on the team so far, one of the funniest things to be has been Coach Quinn’s nicknames for guys on the team. Whether that be wee man, shrek, or any other name, his Irish accent and jokes get to me sometimes.

My soccer career goal is to do everything I can to to win multiple MIAC titles and go to the tournament by playing my role on the team and trying to have everyone around me succeed on and off the pitch. Put SJU on top. After graduation, I want to travel and eventually start a family. Maybe start my own business or join a company. I want to stay involved in soccer and help coach a team as well.

I chose SJU because of the community, campus, alumni network, and sense of family in the soccer squad.

Since I’m only a freshmen, so far my funniest memories are half the things Stone says.

I chose Saint John’s because of the family atmosphere. Once on campus, you can feel the community and passion that everyone has for the school. It’s located in beautiful Minnesota and I had the chance to continue playing the sport I love.

My funniest moment while being on the team was being called “Shrek.”

I also plan to dominate men’s league while my fitness is still decent.

I chose St. John’s because of the beauty and ambiance of the campus, the quality education and the lifelong friends I knew I would meet. The exposure to the Johnnie alum network weighed heavily on my decision as well. Johnnies help Johnnies!

It is tough to decide what is my funniest memory while being on the team because I always seem to be laughing around the guys, but my freshman year LandShark Cup in was in 6” of snow was incredible. The ridiculous things people were wearing to play that day was something I will never forget.

John Haws

SJU Soccer Coach.jpg

John Haws ended his ninth season as head coach of the Saint John's soccer program in 2018. He became the seventh head coach in the 44-year history of Johnnie soccer in 2010 and replaced his father, Pat Haws, who is Minnesota's all-time leader in collegiate soccer victories.

SJU made its sixth consecutive appearance in the MIAC Playoffs in 2017 and reached the MIAC semifinal game five straight years from 2012-16. The Johnnies made their second consecutive trip to the MIAC Playoff Championship game in 2014 and finished with a 13-7 overall record, one win shy of the school record and one MIAC victory shy of the conference title.

A 1999 graduate of SJU, Haws served as head boys’ soccer coach at Saint John’s Prep while playing his senior season with the Johnnies that fall. Haws graduated that December and served as an SJU assistant coach for 10 seasons.

Haws has earned the NSCAA Premier Badge as well as the USSF National “B” License. He completed his master’s degree in sports management from St. Cloud State University in 2011.

Haws lives with his wife, Jennifer, daughters Scarlett and Story, and son, Stetson, in nearby Sartell.
